The Wrecks Puts on an Infinitely (Extra)Ordinary Show at the Newport Music Hall

The California-based band “The Wrecks” rocked the room at Newport Music Hall early last month so much so that it made a lasting impression on those attending. After the last chord was struck, and house lights went up, the crowd was excitedly leaving the building in groups, raving about the show they had just seen. Because of this, I think it’s best we start at the beginning.

The first opener, Benjamin Carter, delivered confident vocals over an indie rock inspired structure. His presence certainly drew the audience with his stage presence and passion for his music exuded through every song. Not to mention the guitarist and drummer of his band appropriately matching his energy but allowing Benjamin to take the lead throughout their set.

Secondly, Quarters of Change took the strange with groovy indie rock vibes that got the crowd moving. Repping some alt-inspired fashion, their stage appearance and presence were noticeably well put together.

The Wrecks exploded onto stage to an already energetic and alive crowd, creating a stir of chaotic energy that solidified their stage presence within their first song. The stage was decorated with pieces of furniture from the lead singer of The Wrecks, Nick Anderson’s, home. This was themed after their newest EP, INSIDE :, a part one of a full album they plan on releasing sometime in the near future.

Their singer heavily prioritized having a good dialogue going with the audience throughout the show, which proved to benefit them time and time again, keeping the crowd fully immersed in their show. In fact, he once jumped in the pit and ran from back to front, singing alongside fans, which for me was undoubtedly a core memory of the show.

The band’s upbeat rocky melodies paired with honest and in-your-face vocals created an overall wonderfully composed and exciting show. Their creative endeavors still separate them from other bands in their scene, allowing them to flourish when they share their music with the world.
