Em Beihold Press Conference

On February 28, I had the chance to speak with Em Beihold through an °1824 press conference. She chatted about her upcoming tour with Lewis Capaldi, her new song “Roller Coasters Make Me Sad,” and her favorite Spiderman.

Em is a singer/songwriter from Los Angeles. She played piano as a child, and she wrote her first song at age seven.

The 24-year-old was invited to write a song for a Michelle Schumacher film, and ended up with “Not Who We Were.” After that, she released a few singles, and some really caught wind on TikTok. “City of Angels” and “Groundhog Day” gained massive popularity through the app.

She released her most successful single, “Numb Little Bug” in 2022. Following the single, she released an EP Egg in the Backseat. The EP touches on Em’s mental health struggles and relationships.

Em has also had massive success with her duet version of “Until I Found You” with Stephen Sanchez. The duo went on the Late Late Show with James Corden and performed the heartfelt single on national television.

It was recently announced that Em would accompany Lewis Capaldi on his upcoming North American tour. When asked about it, Em was super excited!

“Yeah, it’s really crazy. That’ll be the biggest tour I’ve ever done. Just the fact that I’m going to be playing Grand Ole Opry and Radio City Music Hall is crazy to me because I never would’ve imagined venues that big. But also I’m literally excited to be in his presence and see his show because he is so funny,” Em said.

Em also gave us her pre-tour rundown, “Usually, I have three or four days of rehearsal beforehand that are all day. I have some fittings to make sure the wardrobe is good. I’m not great at styling myself, so I had to hire a stylist for tour, but I would love to get better at clothes. I pack hours before I leave which is so bad. I need to stop doing that because I always forget something.”

When asked about her song “Spiderman” she joked it was written in the movie theater.

“It was like top of January 2022, and I wrote it about my current boyfriend,” she said as she laughed.

Naturally, this led to the “Who is the best Spiderman?” debate. Em defended Tom Holland, “See, I’m just a Tom Holland fan in general, so I say Tom.”

Em’s latest single, “Roller Coasters Make Me Sad,” came out a few days before the press conference. We watched the lyric video with Em on the call, and it was such a creative and well-done piece of art.

“It was done by a girl named Julia Fernandez. She’s super talented. I met her when I had my first song go viral on TikTok, so it was kind of a cool full circle thing that we got to do this together,” she said about the video.

As of now, she has no plans for a music video, but she hasn’t shut down the idea.

“I don’t know if we’ve got a budget for a video, but if the song goes viral we can do a music video! But as of right now, I think it’s just a lyric video,” she said. (I really want a music video, so go listen to “Roller Coasters Make Me Sad” and fall in love with it like I did.)
