Bo Staloch: Growing “The Garden”
“If something feels right, then it’s probably right.” A piece of advice Bo Staloch has embraced in both his music career and personal life since a filmmaker first shared it with him.
Bo Staloch is a singer-songwriter living in Nashville originally from Austin, Texas. Having been immersed in Austin’s music scene growing up, his Texas roots greatly influenced his dream to pursue music. Bo has fond memories of attending Austin City Limits every year and recalls being mesmerized by the authenticity he observed from the crowd while attending a concert at Stubb’s.
Staloch has kept this memory close to him, hoping his live performances create a similar safe space that allows his audience to feel what they need to feel during his concerts. One childhood memory Bo treasures is the time he spent with his family frequently rewatching Mumford & Sons live at Red Rock on YouTube.
Family is one of the most valued parts of Bo’s life and has therefore become a consistent theme across his music. In his recently released EP, he sings about the love he has for his family and future children. In naming his EP The Garden, he hopes listeners can place themselves in their garden, whatever that looks like to them, when listening to his songs. As Bo explained it, “Feel what you need to feel and be who you need to be.”
“The Garden” is also the title of one of the six songs on the new EP. This piece is specifically special to Bo as he wrote it surrounded by family, his manager, and his manager's young daughter in a family home in Minnesota. Surrounded by people he loves, Bo recognized and released the fears he was holding onto for his future family. “Give It A Break”, another song on the EP, highlighted the blend of emotions that came with navigating a breakup while simultaneously experiencing the captivating energy of being on tour. As he voices in the song, “Give It A Break” is a reminder to himself that he will be fine, singing “Someday, I’ll be alright.”
In a recent press conference for Bo, I got a glimpse into his creative process as an artist. He expressed the intention and vulnerability he pours into his music, revealing that each song has come from a very deep and real place. Bo believes all the music he has ever listened to has had some sort of influence on his creations as an artist. He also spoke about his experiences of both finding and losing himself in the willow tree rooted at his dad’s childhood farm. Bo strives to write music that emits the same euphoric feeling he encountered as a young boy in the willow tree.
Since releasing his first single in August of 2023, Bo has gained recognition for his heartfelt and tender yet powerful sound. Selling out headliner shows in Dublin and London, Staloch is beyond grateful yet shocked that people across the world know and love his music. Bo just finished touring with Houndmouth and will be opening for multiple artists in the following months including Mark Ambor, Zach Bryan, and Ashe. He will also take the stage at FairWell Festival in Oregon and Lollapalooza in Illinois this summer. With so many upcoming performances, Bo will undoubtedly grasp the attention of fans, capturing the recognition he deserves.
