Cigarettes @ Sunset, Kemba Live! Outdoor
Despite the incredibly hot weather on the night of September 16, Cigarettes @ Sunset delivered an unforgettable opening set at Kemba Live! for Rainbow Kitten Surprise.
They opened their set with “Rewind,” which is my personal favorite of theirs. From the moment the music began, they were full of energy. The constant jumping around the stage and interacting with the crowd allowed for an elevated experience. Instead of just singing at the crowd, they were engaging with us.
At one point, they actually played an unreleased song of theirs. “Carolina Shakedown” was a big hit with the crowd, even though we were unfamiliar with it. Being from North Carolina, this song holds a meaningful connection for the band members.Somehow, the show became even more entertaining as it went on. While performing one of their most popular songs, “Gasoline,” Garrett Dellinger, the lead vocalist, joined the crowd in the pit to sing along with them. This was a remarkably unique event that I found to be quite intimate. By connecting with the audience, the band displayed their gratitude and acknowledgement of their fans.

As their set was winding down, they played even more notable tracks, such as “My Fix,” “Great, Kid,” and “Pavement.” Although the crowd was anxious to see Rainbow Kitten Surprise, we were all reluctant to watch Cigarettes @ Sunset leave the stage. However, that wasn’t the last we saw of the band. They ended up sticking around after their set to sign merchandise inside of the venue. As if their performance wasn’t impactful enough, they went above and beyond to provide their fans with an inimitable musical experience.
