The Midwest Band has done it again.

On Friday, January 20th, Max Lew & The Midwest Experience absolutely packed the Summit Music Hall, where the ensemble played an extraordinary first 2023 set. The four-piece ensemble features lead vocals and guitar from Max Lew, brain-melting drums by Auden Stevenson, energetic bass and harmonies from Preston Murphy, and Dylan Andras’s expert shredding on lead guitar.

The band features a variety of sounds from the pop rock genre, performing original tunes such as “Lock Me Up”, “Checkmate”, “Five”, and “Is It So Bar To Want You So Bad”, as well as many covers such as “Kyoto” by Phoebe Bridgers and “The Scientist” by Coldplay. The band champions a free-flowing pop-rock sound combined with unique elements and sounds from jazz, rock, and indie camps that bring the crowds they’ve created over the past 2 years.

Max Lew & The Midwest Experience also had the help of a fantastic opening from Vin Hank, who similarly brought talented musicians and catchy originals for Summit to enjoy. Needless to say, the Midwest Band brought incredible energy to the crowd leading up to Desmond Jones who closed out the exciting night.

I asked Max his thoughts on the night: “The performance was absolutely electric. The boys and I had an absolute time jamming together and having fun with the crowd. I started this band my freshman year as a way to connect my friends and classmates all together. I was never big into hosting parties at my house with everyone I knew from different social circles; this seemed like an authentic way of doing so. It made me so happy to see so many people that I know vibing under one roof. I play mostly covers because this band is so much more than a way of promoting my self-image: it’s a way to make people happy and excited by live music, the way it should be.”

Max Lew & The Midwest Experience have their next show on February 16th at Rumba Cafe. They are joined by Dairy Family, another fantastic local talent that is sure to make an exciting show.

After this incredible show, we can’t wait to see them again!
