Diana Silvers Press Conference
Kickstarting her live music career this previous summer, actress and model Diana Silvers, is quickly emerging in the music industry with her debut album ‘From Another Room’. At a recent press conference hosted by Universal Music Group’s 1824, Silvers discussed her approach to making music, touring with Jon Batiste, and the unique creative background Silvers comes from.
Diana Silvers went to New York University’s prestigious Tisch School of Arts where she studied history and film, but her interests in the arts began well before her studies dating back to her early adolescence. In the press conference, Silvers laughed about her early forms of composing music and creating (admittedly bad) short films starting at the age of thirteen. She noted that these first steps in creating her own art have been pivotal in her career. Continuing to act in films, upon graduation from NYU Silvers started to both model and act, playing roles in films such as Ma, and Lonely Planet. Only recently has Diana started to release her own music, but her background in modeling and film has helped craft a unique sound in her music.
Diana described the internal process that she goes through while creating a song. She said that she sees colors while making music, and that these colors create both imaging and framing. ‘Painting a picture’, Diana then is able to create a narrative for each song she composes. Silvers doesn’t dedicate certain time blocks to creating her music. In the press conference she explained that she spontaneously composes songs. Silvers makes music when she ‘feels her emotions’. Hanging out at her friend's apartment earlier in the day Diana had a deep emotion, which led her to create a song on the spot!
When asked about her extensive background in acting, blending her two professions through soundtracks is something listeners anticipate out of Silvers. Diana responded that she loves soundtracks, and that her favorite movies have soundtracks synonymous to the film.
This past summer and autumn Silvers had the opportunity to support Jon Batisite’s North American tour. When asked about her role on tour, Diana admittedly acknowledged some self doubts she had opening for one of the most respected musicians of our time. Diana mentioned that she questioned how she, an upcoming artist, could bring value to Jon Batisite’s show. Overcoming these doubts, Diana discovered that she could bring value through her sound, differentiating from Jon but still one that would captivate the audience that was primarily at the show for him.
Diana described the tour as a learning experience. Well equipped on stage with her acting background, Diana was able to quickly adjust to performing her music on stage, and mentioned the quick learning she made throughout the tour, especially with the support of Jon Batiste.
In what has already been an extremely successful entertainment career for someone only 28 years old— I argue that the sky is the limit for Diana Silvers. Well equipped with industry knowledge, creativity, and drive, Diana Silvers is already in the works of her sophomore album and is ready to become a driving force in the music industry.
